What The Hell Happened To Josh Hader?
This is maybe the most confusing turn of events I can remember over the last couple MLB seasons. Especially watching Hader so much in the NL Central. One of the most dominant and dependable relievers heading into this season
Then he started the 2022 season with a perfect 0.00 ERA through the first 19 appearances deep into the 2nd week of June. That's when he gave up his first run of the year. You could say it was the best he's looked in his career.
But then just 6 weeks later, the Brewers were ready to move on. In the following 18 appearances, Hader's ERA skyrocketed alongside opponents batting average in one of the strangest twists I can recall. What the hell happened?
We dig into the move this week and what could be contributing to the recent struggles. Is it long term? Is it a velocity issue? Is he still sharp or is there some kind of lingering injury concern?
Absolutely fascinating development. The Brewers are struggling in the Central and fighting for the last wild card spot. So hard to say it's a good deal when they've gone the other direction since making it. But same time it's like they saw these struggles coming. Maybe not to this extent because I don't think anyone can say it like that. But it's surprising to say the least and we'd like to see him back at his best. No doubt the Padres could certainly use it this time of year.
