ATTENTION Yankees Fans: Stop Whining
I think that might be the most simple blog title I've ever written and I couldn't think of a more fitting time. There's really no reason to complicate the message here.
Sure - we've got plenty of other shit to talk about on this week's Starting 9. From the Tatis suspension to talking country music and baseball with Jordan Davis all the way to St. Louis to celebrate a man who ruined a large part of my youth. So much to get into this episode.
But maybe nothing more pressing than assuring Yankees fans that this is part of just about any season. You're going to hit a rut over 162. Jake has some great insight from playing on some very good teams. We open the show with an immediate state of the union on the Yankees and why it's not a big deal towards winning a World Series.
The bulk of it is two fold. Yes, you're going to struggle at some point. But another reason to calm is this exact group has shown exactly what they're capable this year. You're not waiting for pieces to click. They've clicked. If this was June, I'd have some questions. But it's predictable when you send 7 guys to the All Star Game and play at the top of MLB's most competitive division. There's plenty of factors pulling the Yankees in one direction and it's quite literally just a matter of time where they're winning 7 of every 10. With 7+ weeks in the season, there's plenty of time to get into a groove.
Fortunately (in my opinion), there's one team in the AL that can beat the Yankees in a playoff series and it's the Astros. Even more fortunate is they won't play one another until ALCS which gives the Yankees a lot of time to get healthy, focused, prepped, etc. And ultimately that's all Yankees' fans will care about when you reflect on the 2022 season. So why freak out now? I just watched the ghost of Johnny Cueto absolutely CARVE the Astros lineup. He's been surprisingly good this year but the bigger point is just relax. You have plenty of time until you're actually mad enough to punch a wall.
Until that day comes, check out Starting 9. I think it's a good show. And while I'm biased, I still think it's a good show. Subscribe below so you can make an opinion for yourself.
