Jack Harvey Tells Me Why He Hates "Silly Season"
Jack Harvey is currently driving the 60 car for Meyer Shank Racing, but that's only going to last four more races.
The team, followed by Jack, announced Harvey will be taking his driving talents to a new team in 2022. It's been one of the more prominent stories during the 2021 cycle of IndyCar "silly season" - something that Jack isn't too fond of.
"I hate silly season," Harvey told me. "I think it's the biggest goof ever...Because I have a lot of respect for the people I'm with - my current team, the team I'm going, the drivers. Seeing so many people linked to multiple different seats...if you were the driver of the car and someone was being linked to your seat, it's kind of the nature of sport...I just wish that we could conclude at the end of the season."
Essentially, Jack doesn't hate silly season itself, he just doesn't like the timing of it. And that's fair. It's hot during the season. It would be awkward to have the rumors flying around so prominently.
"I almost wish that racing had a either transfer window or a free agency market that started from like October to December…and don't get me wrong I have so much respect for all the guys at Meyer Shank Racing, but it wasn't my decision to announce that we were leaving halfway through the season."
Tough spot for Jack to be in, but I think he handled it incredibly well. Finished 6th in the Big Machine Vodka GP last week.
