Paul Tracy Wants Marco Andretti To Do The Indy-Charlotte Double In 2022
Marco got back in the Winner's Circle on Saturday night in Slinger. Now he's third in the points standings heading into the final race of the series in Nashville this weekend.
The dude has turned some heads with his first go around with stock car racing and has hinted big time at making the move to strike a deal to get a ride in NASCAR now that he's retired from IndyCar (besides the Indianapolis 500 of course). So combine the two factors of him continuing to run the Indy 500 every year and his heavy interest in joining the NASCAR series and you possibly get him pulling Double Duty on Memorial Day weekend next year?
Paul Tracy thinks he can and wants him to try.
"I think if he wanted to (be good in NASCAR), he could yeah for sure. I think he's got the name he could put together a deal. He could certainly find some sponsorship. Maybe he can do something that his dad (Michael) never did. His dad never won in a stock car. His grandfather did...I told him a few weeks ago "you're really good at this' I said 'you should try to do the 500 next year then try to run the 600. That would be super cool. He was like 'yeah! I'm going to try that' so he's working on it."
That would be something. The list is short of those who have done it. 1-of-1. Another legendary name in racing - Tony Stewart back in 2001. Finished 6th at Indy then got a podium in Charlotte. Maybe with Marco can pick up some pointers from Stewart himself while racing in the dude's own series this summer with SRX.
Fingers crossed.
