Bill Belichick's North Carolina Program Will Be Featured on 'Hard Knocks: Offseason' After HBO Couldn't Get an NFL Team To Do It
Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels will be featured on the second season of Hard Knocks: Offseason after HBO couldn't get an NFL team to agree to do the show after the New York Giants had their experience losing the best running back in the League detailed with behind the scenes footage on national TV. But why the hell wasn't Belichick the first option to begin with?
Some of the Saquon Barkley stuff last year was interesting, but there isn't a front office anywhere in the NFL that has storylines this offseason even close to Belichick going to North Carolina to coach in college for the first time. This feels like it should have been a no-brainer. I wouldn't have watched a second of another season of this show with an NFL team, but I will be locked in for every episode of Belichick having to deal with 19-year-olds threatening to transfer if they don't get a new NIL deal immediately. With college football now being the wild west, the offseason storylines there are far more intriguing than anything an NFL general manager is doing.
I'm sure Belichick has already gotten a taste of what college football is like in the NIL era, but watching him traverse spring practice, the spring transfer portal window and getting ready for his first season in a totally new environment will be fascinating. HBO should have just said this was their first choice all along, because it's going to make for a great TV show.
