Cancel The Season: Jalen Hurts' Historic Training Camp Streak Of Passes Without Throwing An Interception Comes To An End
There are a few records in sports that'll never be touched for the rest of eternity. Wayne Gretzky had more career assists than anybody else even has points, and that's before you add his 894 career goals to the total. Cy Young threw 794 complete games, nowadays pitchers get sent to the hospital if they go over their pitch count by 2 or 3. And now Jalen Hurts threw 305 consecutive passes without an interception during Eagles training camp this summer. But just like all great streaks in sports, this one came to an end.
The man went the entire training camp without throwing a pick, but just couldn't get through that final day of camp before Darius Slay decided to get his greedy little paws on one of those passes.
And I'll tell you what…
That might just be the most important pick the Eagles' defense has all year. Because despite how contrary this statement is to the title of the blog, there's a good chance that pick just saved the season. I could see it now--Jalen Hurts goes through training camp without throwing an interception, that's all the talk leading up to week 1 in Brazil, and then he goes on to throw like 5 picks in the first 2 games of the season. I'm not going full Nick Wright here and saying that it's bad that Jalen isn't throwing enough picks out there during practice, but I will say that getting one out of the way right now to get it out of the way is probably for the best.
There's just no way that any Eagles quarterback would be able to go into a season without throwing a pick in camp, and then not end up putting up some historically bad interception summers when it actually matters. So credit to Big Play Slay on making one of the biggest plays of them all today. The man had one last day to finally make it happen, and he delivered. That's huge for the program.
So congrats to Jalen Hurts and setting one of the most unbreakable records in all of sports. He'll forever be Mr. 305 from now on. Dalé.
