Big Cat Takes The Yak Out To The Ballgame
Friday's Yak was on the shorter side. It was our first week in Chicago and the bossman was getting us tickets to the 1:20pm CST Cubs game. The office is walking distance from the office so it was a fun team bonding activity to also get us excited about our new city. He told us the tickets would be good, but I didn't realize we'd literally be sitting Row 1 behind the dugout.
We had a grand ole' time. I had a Chicago dog and a beer and even tried peanuts for the first time at a baseball game.
I didn't want to be rude, so I found out I was a peanut shell eater today.
And we were so close that the Diamondbacks players were only a few feet away from us. Both the Cubs and D-Backs had simultaneous no hitters through four innings with the Cubs going through five.
Then I decided to say, "What kind of a name is Corbin?" to rookie sensation Corbin Carroll as he left the dugout. He definitely heard me and proceeded to rip a single breaking the the no-no.
But that did give me some gusto and with Big Cat and KB egging me on I proceeded to give a few more guys some guff. I started to give up with Tommy Pham got out of the dugout. Now I've never met Tommy Pham and he likely doesn't know who I am. But we are connected. See after his dust up with Joc Pederson over a fantasy football debt when viral, Pham was kicked out of his fantasy league run by then Commissioner Mike Trout. That fallout led Dave Portnoy being asked to join the league with the stipulation that he be the Commissioner of find someone who would do it. I'm not sure I've ever replied to a text message quicker. Next thing you know, I'm rubbing elbows with some of the best big leaguers in the world and it's been a fun experience that has continued into this year.
Getting back into the present, Pham was having a rough game. He was 0-3 with three strikeouts when he stepped to the plate. I had kind of given up heckling the players but was told I likely had some more gas left in the tank for Tommy. He struck out for the fourth time so I let him hear it on the way back to the dugout.
The group chat was buzzing after that one got sent around but a good Commissioner defends his guys which is what I did there. No hard feelings though Tommy.
It was a great day overall despite the Cubs losing 1-0. I had to jet in the bottom of the 9th to beat traffic to scoop my kids from daycare but just after I left Big Cat sprung into action. A foul ball went over the net into the section next to us, but Big Cat looked like Andre Drummond chasing down this rebound.
And guess who ended up with the ball for the second day in a row?
A great day was had by all. But we had a fun time Yakking before. Check out the full show here:
