Celebrating The USMC Birthday In South Philly Style
This past Saturday marked the 243rd birthday of the Marine Corps and Marines get real jazzed about it. Since the Corps was established in Philadelphia it’s no surprise that we party the hardest for it.. and best party of them all? Down in South Philly at Cookie’s Tavern on Oregon Avenue. Shout out to the owner there who couldn’t have been nicer, and to all the Marines who celebrated there.
The highlight of my day was running into groups of Marines who hadn’t seen each other in years, including two friends from Vietnam who were meeting up for the first time in 20 years. Pretty amazing to slow down & listen to people’s stories.
The only thing as motivating to me around the USMC birthday this year was Dave Portnoy giving a solid “Ooorah” over a slice of pizza during a very respectful pizza review.
