2Biggs On COVID & Hamilton + The Lucas Bros On Cancel Culture, American Comedy, And New Fred Hampton Biopic [FULL VIDEO]
Last week on 2Biggs, Willie and I were joined by the standup comedy duo, The Lucas Bros. In this episode, Keith and Kenny unpack their powerful essay on Vulture.com about their cousin, Kaizen Crossen who, in his death, has been called a domestic terrorist. The twins also talk about suffering from PTSD as a result of the violence they witnessed growing up in Newark, New Jersey. After a decade of performing standup comedy, the former law-school dropouts are living in Hollywood, focusing on writing, acting, and producing. The brothers co-wrote a biopic about Black Panther activist Fred Hampton (starring Lakeith Stanfield) that is set to be released in theaters August 2021. We discuss cancel culture and what jokes are worth fighting for in 2020. The Lucas Bros also tell us how working with Judd Apatow has helped their writing evolve.
Before the interview, Willie and I discuss COVID-19 hitting close to home, Entanglements, and why the musical Hamilton has accumulated so many haters from the hip hop community.
