A Scheme Is the Coolest Thing to Have Named After You

On this week's Macrodosing, we brought on Large to discuss Bernie Madoff and his $60 billion Ponzi scheme that landed him in federal prison. Obviously when discussing the biggest Ponzi scheme in U.S. history, the Ponzi scheme itself — named for famed early 20th century fraudster Charles Ponzi — got discussed as well.

In terms of things to have named after you, a scheme is right there at the top. Sure, it might not reflect too well on your name, but it's nothing if not memorable. If I was to come up with a top five, I think the following four would round it out, in no particular order:

- City/State/Country

- Street

- Airport

- Food

Airport is definitely last on this list, because while it's certainly notable, 99 percent of people hate the airport. Hearing John F. Kennedy's name invokes thoughts of a TSA line long before anything about him having been a president. The closest to a scheme is probably food. Salisbury steak, Fettuccine Alfredo, Caesar Salad (not named for *that* Caesar, but a Caesar nonetheless). Get an item like that and your name lives forever.

But at the end of the day, none of these come close to a scheme. We're due for a newly named scheme at this point. Ponzi is played out. I'd place a bet on Billy Football being the next to stake his claim to a scheme.
