You're Allowed To Hate Your Favorite Team When They Play Like Garbage

This is something I feel very passionately towards and find myself screaming about on every single Short Porch episode and tweeting about every time the Yankees lose.

You are allowed to hate your favorite team when they play like garbage. You are allowed to yell. You are allowed to scream. You are allowed to be angry at them.

That doesn't mean you're not a true fan. In fact, I'd argue that's a huge part of what being a fan is. If you don't get irrationally angry when your team puts up lifeless efforts in loss after loss, then you're just not a true fan.

The New York Yankees are playing like absolute dog shit lately. They are inexcusable losses. They've lose five of six, including getting swept in Detroit by one of the worst teams in baseball. And it's the manner in which they're losing that makes things even worse. They can't hit. They make errors. They don't play good fundamental baseball. They look lifeless and are entering a territory of being completely unwatchable. And it makes me irrationally angry and want to scream for things to change.

There are a lot of idiot Yankee fans out there who have this weird obsession with constantly needing to defend every aspect of the team: from the front office, to the manager, to the players. If you ever criticize your team, you're "not a true fan" and don't get to celebrate the good times. Well, that's a load of bullshit.

We don't owe anyone on this team any sliver of loyalty. I've long been a supporter of Brian Cashman, but my patience for him is wearing thin. He has been responsible for really one World Series in his tenure: 2009. He didn't build the teams in the late 1990s. Since then, as they embrace all these analytics and try to act like they're the smartest team in baseball, they haven't won shit. The Yankees have advanced past the ALDS just 5 times in the last 15 seasons. They haven't won or even been to a World Series in the past 11 seasons. Aaron Boone is another guy who has done nothing to earn goodwill from fans. His savages rant in 2019 was cool. Sure, they won 100 games in his first two seasons. He's also won just a single playoff series in three years. He never holds his team accountable and gives the same pathetic, trite answers game after game. "Good at-bats." "The guys are battling." "We're going to get better." "We're about to turn a corner." Just once, I would like to hear him lay into his team and at least pretend to have the same anger and passion that fans have.

But this is not supposed to be an Aaron Boone rant blog. Because you can blame whoever you want: him, Cashman, the front office, the players, I don't care. The point is you're allowed to blame someone, and you're allowed to be angry.

The Yankees suck right now. I'm mad. And you should be too.
