The Top 10 College Football Programs Right Now
The best programs in college football. How do you define it? Do we factor in what Notre Dame did in the 30s? How does a claimed national title in 1972 compare to a BCS one in 2004? We could debate it all day, every day, but on this week's Unnecessary Roughness, Brandon Walker hit us with his top 10 programs right now.
1-7 was relatively easy:
1. Alabama
2. Ohio State
3. Clemson
4. Georgia
5. Oklahoma
6. LSU
7. Notre Dame
1-7 is easy to agree with. Sure, we could debate the rankings of them, but those 7 should be in your top 10. The debate really starts when we break down spots 8-10.
Side note: the definition of what went into this top 10 is explained in the video at the top of this blog. It's the top 10 programs right now. Not the top 10 teams for the upcoming season or anything like that.
I would not have put Wisconsin in at #8 or in the top 10 at all quite frankly. I have nothing against Wisconsin, they're probably in the 10-20 range, but sitting at number 8 is a bit much. I define great programs as a combination of wins, quality of job, boosters, recruiting, etc. Wisconsin just doesn't have that juice. All that being said, some of the slander on the timeline of the Wisconsin ranking was nonsense:
Here is my top 10:
1. Alabama
T-2. Ohio State
T-2. Clemson
4. Georgia
5. Oklahoma
6. LSU
7. Notre Dame
8. Oregon
9. Florida
10. Texas
Texas is still in there. It's a better job than Wisconsin, easier to recruit to, and pulls in way more money because it's a bigger brand. This is nothing against Wisconsin, they are right there and have been more successful over the past 10 years.
You can watch list week from us now on YouTube. 2 hours of Brandon Walker, who would complain about that?
