Game Of Thrones Recap: Season 8 Episode 1

Finally Game of Thrones…HAS COME BACK TO TV HBO!!! It’s a new season, we have a new map in the opening, and shit is already starting to pop off. There may not be crazy highlights like in other season premieres, but we had some pretty goddamn important moments to discuss and a lot to recap. Jon casually flew a dragon for the first time like it was no big deal, Euron gets COCKY with Cersei (see what I did there?) despite the Golden Company not delivering on their promise of those fucking elephants, Dany is seemingly unwelcomed in the North, Bran is mean mugging everyone now that he’s dropping #BranBombs on everyone as the Woj of Westeros, Bronn gets Chekhov’s Crossbow, and Sam tells Jon he has a different name as well as different parents. This may come across as a nitpick, but I think we were more blown away about the new map in this episode than Jon was when he found out he is the rightful king of Westeros that has been fucking his aunt for the last God knows how many weeks. I don’t know if this will always be the case, but some of the moments in this episode felt like they were rushed like a few moments from last season were. Is that the product of a shortened season or just how the show is proceeding now that it is way ahead of the books?

Despite all that, we still got a bunch of stuff set up last night that will likely all be knocked down, whether it’s by the Night King, the upcoming Cersei/Khaleesi(/Jon?) war, or a mix of both along with some other shit we couldn’t see coming in a million years because Thrones always hits us with a blindside hit with the impact of a punch from The Mountain.

Also we are going to try to incorporate mailbag questions into the show, which will be trick because so much is about what we just watched unfold on our TV screens. But go to barstoolsports.com/askthethrone to submit your questions now or immediately after next week’s episode airs.

Make sure to download and subscribe if you haven’t yet as well!

Thanks for listening everybody. It looks like we are in for a hell of a ride.
