Andrew McCutchen Returns To Pittsburgh And Receives A Standing Ovation In His First At-Bat
He was the guy. In an era when players hardly ever start and finish their careers with the same team, Andrew McCutchen wore that Pirates uniform for nine years, and he never wanted to take it off. Prior to the 2016 season, McCutchen said that he wanted to spend his whole career in a Pirates uniform, but that dream was no longer possible after being dealt to the San Francisco Giants this past offseason.
In his nine seasons with Pittsburgh, McCutchen hit .291 with an .866 OPS, finished in the top five for National League MVP in four consecutive seasons (2012-15), including winning the award in 2013. He was even better the following year when he led the league in OPS (.952) and OPS+ (166). For a guy who never wanted to leave Pittsburgh, it was great to see him get his moment in the sun, a thank you from the fans, and the sendoff that he rightfully deserved.
