Donald Glover Continued Being The Most Talented Person On The Planet This Weekend

This is a lazy take and I’m well aware of that. “Donald Glover is the most talented person on the planet” might literally be the easiest, safest, most regurgitated take on the internet right now. But that’s because it’s a correct one.

I don’t have to sell him to any of you, you know his resume already…between acting, doing stand-up, writing, directing, producing, rapping, singing, now fucking dancing, and approximately a billion and two other things, he’s spitting in the face of Ron Swanson’s “Never half-ass two things. Whole-ass one thing.” mantra more and more by the second. He whole-asses everything he does and masters whatever that may be faster than anyone before him. He’s bad at genuinely zero things. And even though that’s super annoying, it still seems like he’s one of the most beloved people in the world. Obviously that’ll continue to teeter a bit with this most song/music video, “This Is America”, as it’s prettay…prettay…prettay political, but as of this writing it still feels like everyone’s rooting for him in all facets of life.

Whether you agree with the statement he’s trying to make here or not, the artistry of the video, the intelligence and effort behind his lyricism (which has been so badly lacking from all of Kanye’s verses recently, all poop-da-scoops aside, which is petrifying me about LOVE EVERYONE and this Cudi project but that’s a blog for a different day), and the MOVES(!!!) on display shouldn’t go unappreciated.

This music video was debuted during this weekend’s edition of Saturday Night Live, which featured Gambino as the host as well as the musical guest, and he (obviously) carried that show to their best episode in months. Here’s a few highlights as well as a live performance of “This Is America”.

This next (and final) record is going to absolutely rule. Oh, and later this month, ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ drops so he’ll be etched into cinema history forever as part of the Star Wars franchise. Not bad at only 34 years old.
