Grand Prix In The City Where The Heat Is On, All Night On The Streets Till The Break Of Dawn

¡Ay papi! According to Sky News, Formula One (F1) race cars could be tearing through Miami next season.

Liberty Media, who took control of F1 in late 2016, have often spoken of their desire to add US “destination cities” to the calendar, and have detailed a proposal for a street race in downtown Miami next season.

A vote at the City of Miami Commission will take place on May 10, where it will be decided whether to proceed with these plans – with a multi-year race contract up until 2028 under consideration.

The U.S. has annual F1 races at the Circuit of the Americas outside of Austin, TX and it’s growing in popularity; the last few years attendance has been up to 250K+. However, it’s on a set track.

The Grand Prix race in Miami would be set in classic street circuit style, and not everyone is happy about it.

Buncha party poopers if you ask me. I’ve been to my fair share of Indy 500s and to put it eloquently, fast cars are just a fucking blast. Imagining that excitement, but with F1 cars hitting 200+ MPH as they zoom by palm trees, art deco buildings and sexy people sipping Rum Runners… I’m all about it.

Despite the haters, a slew of excited fans are preemptively cheering the decision and some are even planning their own ‘dream routes':

Glad to see that world famous F1 driver, Felipe Massa, is on board with us, too. As an 11x Grand Prix winner, I think this gent knows a good racing spot when he sees one.

See you October 2019, Massa. Rum Runners on you??
