Dave Gettleman Forcing Everyone In The Giants War Room To Wear A Suit And Tie During The Draft Is An AWFUL Idea

What kind of fake corporate bullshit is Dave Gettleman trying to pull here? This feels like Wall Street McAdoo all over again. The whole reason you try to get a job in the sports business is so you can work in a fantasy world that isn’t really all THAT important while dressing like a varying degree of a slob (blogger obviously being at the bottom end of that scale).

I know Deion Sanders said “Look good, feel good, play good”. But Deion was dressed for like 20 minutes before heading into the locker room and changing into uniform. The Giants scouts have been grinding their dicks off, driving around the country, eating shitty food, and living out of a suitcase for a year straight. The last thing they want to do is squeeze into a suit for the three seconds the Giants war room is on camera. You want your scouts and execs comfortable, thinking clearly during the draft, and to have plenty of spitter cups as they dip and tell you about a players strengths and weaknesses. You can’t do that when you have the upper button of your shirt buttoned up and tucked into your pants. Football Guys don’t wear suits. They wear whatever is crumpled on the floor next to the couch they slept on in their office. Which coach would you like your franchise to emulate?

Coach A:

Mike-Nolan-suit

Or

Coach B:

Bill Belichick

One of those coaches went 18–37 in his career. The other has made the playoffs 16 times and won 5 Super Bowls in his career.

And yeah I know the Giants have the 2nd pick of the draft. But what if Gettleman gets a trade offer for the 2 pick that includes picks later in the 1st round? If I was an exec or scout, I’d tell him not to make the trade no matter what the haul is. Not because I love the players that may be there at the 2nd pick, but because it would mean more video time for the Giants war room ipso facto there would be more time until I could feel that glorious feeling of taking off my suit, tie, and dress shoes. When people are suited up, they aren’t thinking clearly. That’s Day 1 Human Stuff. You are drafting an athlete to play football via a conference call. Not making billion dollar deals. Don’t try to be someone you aren’t, Dave Gettleman. The last guy that did that here caught a hot one to the back of his head with slicked back hair. Treat your scouts the same way your beloved Hog Mollys would like to be treated.

P.S. This tweet kinda sold me on Josh Rosen.
