Andre Ingram, The Lakers 32 Year Old Rookie, Has a Degree In Physics and Tutors Kids in Calculus During The Offseason
Believe it or not the Yankees getting demolished at Fenway last night wasn’t the only thing going on in the sports world, contrary to what Carrabis will tell you. Last night as Coley touched on Andre Ingram, a 32 year old rookie, was called up from the G League and lit Staples Center on fire. It was something special.
Sports are fucking awesome aren’t they? Honestly it was incredible to watch as this super underdog continued to hit bucket after bucket against the Rockets. Ingram went 4 of 5 from long distance, totaling 19 points with 3 rebounds and 3 blocks. I thought it was awesome by the Lakers to do this for Ingram because he absolutely deserved it. Ingram has spent his whole career in the G League (10 years), having played the second most games in its history.
Ingram has quite an interesting tale as the NY Times described. A few years ago he destroyed Jimmer Fredette in the D League’s 3 point contest. He’s no bum on the court as you’ve seen, as he boasts a career 46% clip from 3 point land. He once took an entire year off from basketball to care for his daughter while his wife completed her college degree. While at American University Ingram got a degree in physics and during his offseason he tutors kids in calculus. He looks every bit the part of a 32 year old rookie with his greyish hair as he his face resembles former Lakers coach Byron Scott. From all accounts Ingram is the nicest most humble person in the league.
“It couldn’t happen to or for a better person,” Jones said in a telephone interview. “I don’t think I could adequately describe what a quality human being Andre Ingram is, and has been, going back to when we were recruiting him when he was a high school kid in Richmond, Virginia.”
That quote came from his college coach Jeff Jones at American who raves about him every chance he gets. Last night after the game, Ingram headed over to ESPN’s LA studios right across the street to do an in-person interview. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an interview like this right after a game but it was awesome to see him in a normal collared shirt and jeans like he had just dropped off his kids at school. This guy is AWESOME and I’m pretty pumped to see what he does in an encore tonight agains the Clippers.
