BBC- Two men who thought they had unearthed a stash of Roman gold coins had their dreams dashed when they discovered the coins were a prop for a TV sitcom. Andy Sampson and Paul Adams had been metal detecting in a field on the Suffolk/Essex border when they found more than 50 “gold” coins with pottery. Mr Sampson said his friend started “shouting and jumping around and dancing” after he found the “treasure”. However, it emerged the fake coins were a prop for the BBC show Detectorists. Mr Sampson said the pair, who have only been metal detecting for a year, had spotted the farmer ploughing the field last summer, and got his permission to go out one evening to check it out. “Paul kept running at me shouting, ‘Roman gold!’ and I thought, ‘he’s winding me up’,” he said.

That suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks. That really sucks. Imagine that. These guys have probably been walking around using their metal detectors for DECADES and coming up with NOTHING. Less than nothing Maybe they find a nickel from time to time but nothing of any real value. Then one day they stumble upon their biggest haul. A giant stash of gold coins worth a ton of money……….only to be told what they found is a prop from a TV show. So they went from thinking they struck it rich to getting laughed at by people on the internet. That’s about as bad as it get.

This is the same reason why I don’t understand the videos where people buy someone a fake lottery ticket. That’s the meanest thing you can do to a person, including murdering them. I would much rather be murdered in cold blood than have someone trick me with a fake lottery ticket. It’s not even close. Tricking a person into think they’re rich and then pulling the rug out from under them is mean and potentially dangerous. Because you don’t know how they’re gonna react. Go back to these two guys who thought they found gold coins and were rich. You’re liable to make some rash decisions in those immediate moments. Maybe you tell people to go fuck themselves cause you’re rich now. I know that’s what I would’ve done. If I ever get rich, I’m instantly burning every bridge. Middle fingers to everyone as I board a private jet to Hawaii. Then to find out you’re not actually rich? That’s problematic.
