I Have Just Learned That "Cake Eater" Is A Real Insult In Minnesota, Not Something The Mighty Ducks Made Up

The best part about traveling is expanding your mind. Learning about new cultures, tasting new cuisines, visiting museums, learning new phrases, and getting drunk on local alcoholic beverages. This trip to Minnesota has been lovely for so many reasons (beautiful airport!) but without a doubt the highlight has been when I met a Stoolie at Cowboy Jack’s, told him our house (mansion with an indoor pool and racquetball court) was in Edina, and he casually replied “Ah you’re a fuckin cake eater this week huh?”
*GASP!*
I’m a what? A cake eater?! That’s a real thing?!?!
Folks, it’s a very real thing. I thought it was a silly phrase that the writers of a movie for children invented but I couldn’t have been more wrong. Cake eaters are the rich folks in Minnesota who can have their cake and eat it too. Isn’t language so interesting?
PS – Someone also tweeted me an acrostic about Edina, it’s a great poem.
