TMZ- The Cranberries lead singer, Dolores O’Riordan, died Monday in London.

Dolores and the rest of the band were reportedly in London for a recording session. A rep for the band would only say she died “suddenly.” The rep offered no further details.

Unfortunately I’m coming to you with another dead rockstar blog this afternoon, as Dolores O’Riordan has died in London at only 46 years old. The cause of death is currently unknown, we just know is was sudden and unexpected.

I missed the Cranberries’ heyday obviously, as they were already out of the mainstream by the time I was born, but they were a band I’ve really dug for the past few years. My first exposure to them was through a mixed martial artist by the name of Chan Sung Jung, better known as “The Korean Zombie”, who uses the band’s most popular track as his walkout music. My love of 90’s indie flicks would then invite me deeper into their catalogue, as they’re quintessential music for that era, and while the grungy, in-your-face riffs and Fergal Lawler’s drum grooves are very solid, it was O’Riordan’s vocals that set The Cranberries apart. I once described the band to a friend, “Imagine Alanis Morisette was singing for The Smashing Pumpkins”, and if you know me, you know a comparison to Alanis might as well be a comparison to God. There’s not a song recorded by them that doesn’t utilize Dolores’ emotion in the best possible way, and today, to honor the life of the Irish singer, see for yourself.
