Kevin Spacey Just Invented Something That Has Never Existed Before: A Bad Time To Come Out

Source - Actor Kevin Spacey said that he has “loved and had romantic encounters with men” and that he chooses “now to live as a gay man,” after being accused of a sexual advance on a 14-year-old.

Spacey’s remarks came in a tweet posted on Sunday night after “Star Trek: Discovery” star Anthony Rapp alleged that Spacey climbed on top of him in bed when he was just 14 years old.

Rapp, now 46, accused Spacey of trying to seduce him while attending a party back in 1986.

“He picked me up like a groom picks up the bride over the threshold. But I don’t, like, squirm away initially, because I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ And then he lays down on top of me,” Rapp said in a Buzzfeed article published Sunday.

“He was trying to seduce me. I don’t know if I would have used that language. But I was aware that he was trying to get with me sexually,” Rapp added.

Rapp, who said he never reported Spacey, said the ongoing sexual harassment scandal with Harvey Weinstein had encouraged him to come forward.

Of all the sexual assault allegations coming out of Hollywood this may be the most shocking. I don’t like to use the word allegations either because where there’s smoke there’s usually fire. I muscled through the Anthony Rapp story yesterday, the details of which are incredibly disturbing. In short, Rapp accuses Spacey of making unwanted sexual advances on him when he was a minor. Spacey didn’t deny the behavior and released quite possibly the most ill-timed, out-of-touch statement ever written. I’ve never seen someone fuck up more times in a single paragraph. The first few sentences are okay considering the context. It obviously doesn’t excuse his behavior but a half-assed admission is better than nothing. The rest of it is a disaster.

“As those closest to me know, in my life I have had relationships with both men and women. I have loved and had romantic encounters with men throughout my life, and I choose now to live as a gay man. I want to deal with this honestly and openly and that starts with examining my own behaviour.”

This isn’t about you, Kevin. You’re not the victim. No one gives a shit that you’re gay. It’s about the fact that you are trying to  use a sexual assault allegation to your advantage. It’s about the tone of the second paragraph. It’s about the faux-closeted, feel-bad-for-me sentiment that makes me want to puke. The worst part is that it’s an act. Everyone in Spacey’s life already knew, he’s just trying to spin the headlines. Which people are seeing through.

Being gay isn’t the issue. It’s responding to sexual misconduct by coming out that’s the issue. It’s a spineless, tone deaf attempt at shifting blame towards his sexuality. Not only does it make him look like an idiot it’s isolating him from the community he wants to be a part of. Which is a major problem for a person makes his living on Broadway.
