Letterman Went On Kimmel Just To Shit All Over Jimmy Fallon
Letterman pops by Kimmel once a year and each time he does it’s a treat. Watching him navigate a conversation is like watching a surgeon perform…surgery. Every move is calculated. From the way he responds to a question to how he sits in his chair. It’s the type of hyper self-awareness that comes with doing over four-thousand network television shows. Last night was no different. He came in and just completely hijacked the conversation. Kimmel wasn’t upset either. Letterman is to him what Carson was to Letterman. If you haven’t seen his Kennedy Center Honors speech it’s worth a watch.
The interview itself was fantastic. Letterman jumped right in talking about how nice it was to be around famous people. Then he and Paul, who was sitting in the band, went back and forth like the old days. Although the thing that stuck out the most was how many times he ripped Fallon. On two separate occasions, he joked about being “stuck” with Fallon should the other hosts retire. He then went on to say, “I have nothing but respect for all the talk show men and women…even Jimmy Fallon.” Not once did he mention the show he was there to promote. It could have been his was of complimenting Kimmel on his ratings but it was bizarre nontheless. His show’s been on the upswing since ever since it took on a more political tone. It’s paid off too. His viewership is up nine percent while Fallon’s dropped a total of thirty-one.
Overall it was a great interview. No politics, no drama, just funny. Some people say he should’ve stopped by Colbert instead but that’ll never happen. I wish he would, the more Letterman the better. His Netflix special can’t come soon enough.
