If You're Mourning The Loss Of AIM Just Remember You Can Still Read Away Messages On RGIII's Social Media

Tough day for anyone that grew up in the late 90’s/early aughts and spent countless hours on AIM. It was the introduction to the internet for a lot of us and a pillar in our childhood communication. Long before cell phones, instagram, or twitter, life was all about AIM. It was where many of us came to age, and then once of age talked to a random dude pretending to be a chick online. Nate wrote an awesome blog about it HERE , but waking up this morning to everyone’s old away messages got me sad and nostalgic. Not for AIM, but for the spirit of the away message. The art. The craft. The time you put into penning that perfect message that made you seem super cool and busy even though you were probably doing nothing because you were a 13 year old loser just like every other 13 year old in the history of 13 year olds.

And then it dawned on me, a wise man once said “every ending is a new beginning” and that yes, the away message is gone forever, but the spirit of the away message lives on. It lives on through one vessel, one vessel put on this earth to inspire us all with crappy quotes and shitty cliches. That vessel is RGIII, and inside of him burns an eternal flame, an away message that lives forever and ever (also inside of him is probably a lot of torn knee cartilage but thats not what this blog is about). So I leave you with RGIII, the away message torch bearer, we’re in good hands everyone.

Sing like no one is listening. Love like you’ve never been hurt. Dance like nobody’s watching, and live like it’s heaven on earth
