Sam Saunders Shoots 59... With A Practice Ball

I want to make a big announcement and that announcement is that Sam Saunders is Arnold Palmer’s grandson. I repeat, Sam Saunders is the grandson of Arnold Palmer (famous late golfer).

That same Sam Saunders fired a 59 at the Web.com Tour Finals yesterday. He had this 10-footer for his SIXTH birdie and a row and the 59.

Great stuff. Fun little fact? He did it with a practice ball.

I have a confession. Anytime I play a course with its own logo practice balls, I take one. I don’t know why. I just think they’re very cool and rare. Like catching a unicorn. Plus, if a course has its own logo’ed range balls, they can afford to lose one. It’s a Robin Hood situation — steal from the rich, keep in a corner in my bedroom forever.

Sam needs a solid finish to secure his PGA Tour card for next season. He’s looking good: he followed the 59 with a 5-under 66, is 17-under for the tournament, and (at the time of this writing) four clear of second place.
