Hey guys, Octagon Bob here. I know I’m the MMA guy, and usually don’t venture into boxing much, but I’ve been following the sport a little more closely since Conor McGregor made the jump, and I just had to tell you about this upcoming fight in my backyard. It’s so good, top to bottom, it’s absurd. In the main event, Adrien Broner is fighting Mikey Garcia at Barclays Center on July 29th in the biggest (and best) non-PPV fight of the whole Summer.

Broner’s the classic brash, cocky, arrogant, flashy boxer we’ve seen for generations. He’s got a rap career outside of boxing, and even has music videos with Soulja Boy. He’s not to be taken lightly, however, because he’s a four time world champ. He’s really a character out of a movie. His opponent, Mikey Garcia, is an undefeated three division world champion coming off a long hiatus looking to reclaim his spot up top He’s quiet, he’s calm, he’s focused – basically the polar opposite of Broner. He gets the opportunity to make his statement at the new center of the boxing world, too, at Barclays Center. I had the pleasure of going to some fights there a few months ago, and it is ELECTRIC. The place gets LOUD and gives even the undercard fights a big feel.

Speaking of the undercard fights, Jermall Charlo (undefeated former world champ) is returning to the ring to face Jorge Sebastian Heiland in a middleweight title eliminator. That’s a main event any other night! Oh, and guess what else is on this card? Gerald Washington vs Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller in a banger of a heavyweight bout. Miller’s from Brooklyn so you’d think the crowd will be LOSING IT for him, but they might be split down the middle! Washington is a beloved US Navy vet and former tight end at the University of Southern California coming off a razor thin battle against the champ, Deontay Wilder.
