The Atlanta Hawks New Arena is Going To Have A Courtside Bar, A Barbershop, and Topgolf So You Can Forget You Paid Actual Money To See The Hawks Play
When the project is done, the arena will have 360-degree connectivity to go with new restaurants and bars — including the first bar on an NBA floor. The Hawks Bar, in the shape of the team’s iconic “Pac-Man” logo, will be just steps from the court. “You literally will be 10 feet from the action while you’re having your cocktail and standing and talking with your friends,” Koonin said to CNN. “The day of sitting in your seat, eating your hot dog and having a beer are gone forever. It’s about socialization and a great night out.”
Topgolf simulators also will have a new home at the revamped arena, where the existing six-level wall of suites will be demolished and replaced with a new concourse, upper deck and conference center with new seating options and amenities. Two suites will be equipped with the golf simulators, making Philips Arena the first sports-and-entertainment facility to offer the Topgolf Swing Suite technology. It is also is available at the Four Seasons Hotel in Houston.
I mean this is rock bottom for Atlanta sports right? Your teams and fan base suck so much that you need to have TOPGOLF AND A BARBERSHOP just to get people to come to games? Who in their right mind is going to a Hawks game to play Topgolf? If you’re going to a professional basketball game you should be going to watch I don’t know maybe the basketball game going on? Nope, there’s Topgolf so we can forget completely why we came to the arena in the first place. Oh yeah I could also use a nice fade while we’re here. It’s half-time you going to get a beer? Alright I’m gonna go get a quick skin fade because fuck Atlanta Hawks basketball?
The only cool thing I saw about this is the court side bar so you could be hanging getting a drink and watch the game right in front of you. That’s cool, I’ll side with it, but realistically that spot is going to be a MAD HOUSE from tip off so it probably won’t be that great. At the end of the day this is a prayer and a half for the Atlanta Hawks to get people to watch their games.
There is no worse fan base than Atlanta. You only thought people went to Braves games because of their Indians “chopping” chant, but that was only because a few thousand people did it together and it sounded like 40,000. The Falcons resorted to pumping in fake crowd noise because literally no one was there. And now we have the Hawks bringing in Topgolf to make people forget they paid real actual money to go see the Hawks play basketball. Hot take, maybe not so hot, but Atlanta should not be allowed to have professional sports teams.
