2 New Cases Of The Plague Reported In New Mexico; Also, The Plague Is Still A Thing

USA Today- Two new cases of the plague have been confirmed in Santa Fe County, New Mexico, according to health officials.

The New Mexico Department of Health said a 52-year-old woman and a 62-year-old woman were recently diagnosed with the plague. According to health officials, the first confirmed case of the plague this year occurred in June when a 63-year-old man contracted the plague.

All three patients, who live in Santa Fe County, were hospitalized but there have been no deaths.

Health officials are investigating around the homes of the patients to ensure there is no additional risk to those nearby.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are seven cases of plague on average each year.

While the plague is a serious illness, it can be treated with antibiotics. The key is recognizing the symptoms and receiving treatment quickly.

The plague is typically transmitted to humans through the bites of infected fleas, but can also be transmitted through contact with rodents or dead animals.

Apparently the plague is a real thing in 2017. The bubonic fucking plague, aka the black death. A disease that killed a 3rd of the earth’s population in the 1300s. A disease so insane, it has “the” in front of it like it’s a WWE wrestler. Cancer, HIV, and malaria aren’t scary enough to warrant a “the.” Like if someone tells you a guy died of plague, you never say “which plague?” THE plague.

How about the doctor who had to break the news. How do you do that?

“Hi Mrs. Cresswell, I have some news. You know how we thought you had the flu, a virus that people have in 2017? Well, we were wrong. Turns out it wasn’t the flu; it was the plague. You know the plague, right? It was big during the Byzantine Empire, then again in the late Middle Ages. That wave was really rough, when it killed, well, Europe. Have you been hanging out around rodents or dead animals lately?”

But apparently there are about 7 cases of the plague each year. I guess it’s treatable with antibiotics if you catch it early. Even the plague ain’t the same as it used to be.

Given this recent outbreak in Sante Fe, I have to believe it’s meth-related. Breaking Bad fans know that New Mexico is big on meth, and meth addicts eat rats and have fleas. 2 + 2 = plague.
