Sean Spicer Hid In The White House Bushes To Avoid Reporters After Comey Firing

Business InsiderWhite House press secretary Sean Spicer hid behind bushes on the White House grounds for several minutes on Tuesday evening as staffers sought to respond to the frenzy of media questions about President Donald Trump’s abrupt firing of FBI Director James Comey, according to The Washington Post.

Spicer wanted to return to his office after an interview with Fox Business but couldn’t do so without running into a throng of reporters on his way there, The Post reported.

He emerged from the bushes after a press office executive assistant, Janet Montesi, said he would answer reporters’ questions so long as they didn’t film him, according to The Post.

“Just turn the lights off. Turn the lights off,” Spicer told the reporters. “We’ll take care of this. … Can you just turn that light off?”

Sean Spicer might be the most relatable dude in the White House. We’ve all been here — doing anything and everything in your power to avoid bumping into certain people. For us it’s usually just someone you know that you see out in the wild that you have negative infinity interest in chatting with. You’re ducking into random rooms. Pretending you’re on the phone. Sparking up fake conversations with total strangers to avoid real conversations with actual acquaintances. The White House Press Secretary and the White House Press Corps are like Harry Potter and He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named: they fucking DESPISE each other but need each other. They feed off each other. They’re eternally and naturally bound while simultaneously naturally at odds. Neither can live while the other survives, yet they both survive.

I feel for Spicer here. By all accounts there was little warning; Trump briskly decided to fire the FBI Director. You think Spicer wants to deal with that shit? Nope. Hiding behind some bushes to avoid conversing with people is a feeling we’re all familiar with.

He’s also out for the rest of the week on Navy Reserve duty.
