Tony Romo Reportedly Signs With CBS And Will Replace Phil Simms In The Booth

ABC's

SBD- Tony Romo will be a TV analyst with CBS next season, according to sources. A deal has yet to be signed, but CBS and Romo have reached a verbal agreement. The Cowboys QB is expected to replace Phil Simms as the net’s top game analyst, where he will be paired with Jim Nantz. CBS outbid Fox Sports for Romo’s services, sources said. Fox Sports wanted Romo to replace John Lynch as the game analyst on the net’s No. 2 broadcast team. Just a couple of weeks ago, Fox was considered the front-runner to land Romo, since it carries the NFC package that Romo knows so well. But a concern for Romo was that another former Cowboys QB, Troy Aikman, is the net’s top NFL game analyst, and he is not likely to leave the booth any time soon.

First we lose Mike Carey for replays. Then we lose Boomer Berman on Countdown. And now Phil Simms is shown the door at CBS and is replaced by “Oh my God, he somehow blew another game late in the 4th quarter” Tony Romo. The amount of people that smut bloggers and all of Twitter can make fun of together every Sunday is shrinking at an alarming rate. As a Giants fan though, I actually like this move. Having to listen to people rip apart Phil’s terrible announcing always hurt me inside more than it should of. Sure seeing that little snippet of him throwing a pass during Super Bowl XXI while Jim Nantz would reference the 22-for-25 performance always made me giddy. But then I would have to live in fear for the other 59 minutes of hearing Phil say something nobody could defend. Now Phil has more time to work on his tea drinking and make sure he never misses another breakfast.

As for Tony Romo, he just climbed the ladder of NFL broadcasting escalator style. Straight from QB1 of the Dallas Cowboys to NFL Announcing Team 1 at CBS with the living legend Mr. Tie Trophy And Medium Well Toast himself Jim Nantz. Not many could make that move with no experience, but Tony has the perfect amount of charisma, knowledge, and handsomeness. No way someone less handsome makes a jump that big that quickly.

And what a week for Jim Nantz. From calling the Final 4 to getting a newer, younger, probably better color commentator to going to Augusta to call the Masters. Jim Nantz’s life must be as pleasant as the Masters song right now.

P.S. This should be fun to watch while we are stuffing pigs in a blanket or turkey into our face (depending on when kickoff is).

Dak! Romo! The giant Salvation Army pot! This Thanksgiving Day only on CBS!
