I Respect The Fuck Out Of Any Chick Calling In Sick With A Case Of International Women's Day

In the same spirit of love and liberation that inspired the Women’s March, we join together in making March 8th A Day Without a Woman, recognizing the enormous value that women of all backgrounds add to our socio-economic system–while receiving lower wages and experiencing greater inequities, vulnerability to discrimination, sexual harassment, and job insecurity. We recognize that trans and gender nonconforming people face heightened levels of discrimination, social oppression and political targeting. We believe in gender justice.

Anyone, anywhere, can join by making March 8th A Day Without a Woman, in one or all of the following ways:

  1. Women take the day off, from paid and unpaid labor
  2. Avoid shopping for one day (with exceptions for small, women- and minority-owned businesses).
  3. Wear RED in solidarity with A Day Without A Woman

I understand that we’re in something of a time of transition and I hear all the concerns about a dude who talks like Trump in the White House and the fears that basic women’s health care is at risk. I’ve got a decent grasp on all that, meaning I read the tweet headline but not the story, so I get the call to action. I’m not totally oblivious to it all.

But still… gotta respect the brass balls it takes to call in to work and say, “I’m not coming in today because I’m a woman.” They gotta drag on the floor to pull a move like that. “Sports terms in the workplace” can often be a problem for women, I learned that from the documentary The Office, and never has that been more clear than today. If any chick calling out to sit at home and take the day off from both paid and unpaid labor (I guess that means also don’t parent kids?) while not shopping and wearing red lingerie (I’m assuming) had heard of Wally Pipp then I assure you they would NOT be pulling this stunt.

It’s also just mean to your co-workers, when you think about it. It’s like college football players taking off their bowl game. We came all this way together and now you’re gonna abandon us for a greater cause? That’s fucked up. You’re paid 80% of a salary to do a job, kinda rude to put that on us to pick up that slack for free. But whatever, if you called in sick because you came down with a vicious case of Day Without A Woman then I’ve got no choice but to tip my cap to you. You’ve got a bigger pair then I’ll ever have.
