Belichick's Pro Partner Says He was the Biggest Star at Pebble Beach

Pebble Beach 2

Lawrence Eagle-TribuneRob Oppenheim saw a lot of stars on the Pebble Beach Resort golf club last week.

Justin Timberlake, Aaron Rodgers, Clint Eastwood, Bill Murray, Mark Wahlberg, Huey Lewis and Chris Berman, to name a few.

But Oppenheim said all the aforementioned celebrities couldn’t touch this one particular star who happened to be in his foursome the first three days: Bill Belichick.

“I’m not kidding, he was by far the biggest star at the tournament,” said Oppenheim, who carded rounds of 69, 69, 68 and 72, to finish tied for 8th at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, winning $216,000.

“Bill was a rock star,” said Oppenheim. “We had the biggest crowd following us, which was a great experience for me. I know people say the Patriots are either liked or disliked. From what I saw, everyone loved him here. …

They were ready for Bill, with footballs. They all stood up and when he got there and Bill said, ‘Let’s hear some noise.’ Next thing you know they’re chanting, ‘No days off! No days off!’ It was so cool.”

It should be noted too that Rob Oppenheim needed a top ten finish at Pebble Beach just to hold onto his tour card so he could play at the Genesis Open at Riviera, instead of facing the Zika virus and capture by drug lords at the Web.com Tour stop in Panama. But such is the power of Bill Belichick, that the winning just spread to him like a fabulous infectious disease.

And while I’m tempted to say, “What took you so long?” it’s no surprise to me he was the biggest star at Pebble Beach. He’s had more success than Timberlake, Eastwood, Murray and the rest of those so-called “celebrities” combined times ten. So all those West Coast swells were going to come crawling to him sooner or later. It’s inevitable when you win as much as he does. He’s like Maximus, winning the fights, winning the crowd, turning his back on a weakling emperor and winning the empire. He’s not the best because he kills quickly. He was the best because the crowd loves him.

But next year, when heads back to Pebble with his sixth Lombardi, they’re going to have to clean this shit up.
