Federal Judge Orders Brendan Dassey Be Released From Prison Immediately

MILWAUKEE — The federal judge who overturned the conviction of Brendan Dassey in the case made famous by Making A Murderer ordered Monday that Dassey be freed from prison, under supervision, pending further court developments. U.S. District Judge William Duffin issued the order. Dassey, 27, has been in prison since being sentenced in 2007 to life in the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach, a 25-year-old photographer from St. John, Wis. Dassey’s uncle, Steven Avery, also is serving a life sentence in the Manitowoc County murder.

Am I crazy or was this supposed to happen awhile ago? A judge ordering his release feels like deja vu. There was probably some appeals process but this is finally happening. Brendan Dassey is free. Anyone with a brain (so no one currently living in Manitowoc County) knew that Brendan was innocent. Everyone knew those cops took advantage of a less-than-intelligent kid and made him confess to a murder he didn’t commit. It was brutal to watch. That video of them interrogating him, getting him to confess and then Brendan saying he had a project he needed to present at school is scorched into my brain forever. Absolutely insane that he spent 10 years in prison for that. Also pretty crazy that without a wildly popular Netflix documentary we would have no idea who Brendan Dassey is and he’d still be locked up for life.

Get this man to Wrestlemania already. It’d be the greatest press imaginable for pro wrestling to get him an all-expense-paid trip to Wrestlemania. Do it. This kid has been through enough. He deserves something nice.
