Desperate Times Call For Desperate Measures: It Looks Like The Indians Are Bringing In Ricky Vaughn For Game 7

Portnoy, Feitelberg, Gaz and me went to Cleveland for the first two games of the ALDS to watch the Red Sox get their shit rocked, and that crowd at Progressive Field was LOUD as hell. That was for the first round of the playoffs. I can’t even imagine how loud it’s going to be for Game 7 of the World Series, especially when the bullpen gate opens and out comes Charlie Sheen as Ricky Vaughn.

The movie Major League came out in 1989, so this is the third World Series that the Indians have played in since that movie came out, but for some reason this is the first time that somebody thought it’d be a good idea to incorporate Ricky Vaughn into the pregame festivities. It makes even less sense to do it now, considering the lifestyle choices of Sheen, which have made headlines over the last few years. Regardless, I’m not one of those people who thinks that the Indians shouldn’t have a relationship with the guy because he went off the deep end. He’s playing a character. Ban Charlie Sheen if it makes you feel better, but this is fucking Rick Vaughn we’re talking about. Completely different guy.

At the beginning of the World Series, Sheen showed his support for the Cleveland Indians.

But after never receiving a phone call to either throw out a first pitch, or even just be in the house as an invited guest, he turned sour, which was obviously aided by the thousands of fans on social media who were campaigning for the Indians to let Sheen show up as Vaughn for a first pitch. Well, last night, Sheen was pissed that the Indians were getting smoked in Game 6, and Game 7 was tomorrow, so it was now or never if he were going to throw out a first pitch.

Never was probably the most likely outcome, because I would imagine those types of decisions are planned out a little further in advance than the night before. Apparently, that’s not true.

Fuckin’ WILD THING is coming to Cleveland for Game 7 tonight. Is it for a first pitch? It’s gotta be, right? Sheen wouldn’t waste his time, coming all the way to Cleveland just to sit in a box and wave for the big screen while FOX is at a commercial break. That’s why it’s gotta be a first pitch. The biggest question for me is, does he groove one down the middle, or stick to character and fire one off the backstop? If you’re Sheen, you’ve gotta throw a fastball that takes out the sound bubble guy that’s standing like 45 feet away. That’s what’s gonna get the crowd roaring for Game 7. Set the tone.
