Sasha And Charlotte Main Eventing The Hell In A Cell PPV Last Night Was Great

Growing up watching wrestling in the 90’s, women were used mostly on the Godfather’s hoe train or a good old fashioned bra and panties match. Not many of them were good wrestlers. In fact, not many of them were even average wrestlers. Lita was awesome, and Trish eventually became pretty decent, but otherwise it was a whole lot of meh in the women’s division. Much different now though. With the influx of women’s wrestlers and the building of the division, these chicks go balls to the wall night after night and put on matches often better than the guys.

Which brings us to last night. At the Hell in a Cell PPV, not only did women main event a PPV for the first time, but it was inside of HIAC, which is a huge deal. A first for both. And these chicks definitely deserved it. If there is one thing Sasha and Charlotte care about, it’s putting their bodies on the line to put on the best match possible. They don’t just go through the motions, they both go above and beyond, sometimes nearly killing themselves. Especially Sasha. Sure she’s all muscle, but she’s about 105 pounds soaking wet of muscle. And last night, she took an absolute BEATING.

Sure there were a few botches. For example Sasha being too light to break the table at the end of the match, so instead she just took super rough bumps into the table. But for the first hardcore style match between women of their stature, I think they knocked it out of the park. The match was good, there were some dangerous spots, and the match went toe-to-toe with any match of the night. Sure Rollins and Owens was a better match, but they have years of experience. I was very impressed with how well the ladies did, and hopefully the next time they get in a cell we get them fighting on top.

Sign of the night:

Spot of the night:

Crazy strength from Rollins there.

PS: All that being said, the entire cell gimmick is a bit watered down from the old days, where you could go an entire year without a match happening with the cell stipulation. The Cell was saved for the most vicious of feuds, and when it was announced a match would happen, you knew it meant war. You would think Undertaker throwing Foley off, HHH on top with barbed wire, even Rikishi flying off. Now there’s an entire PPV dedicated to the Cell, which makes the match somewhat less important.
