Jeff Hornacek Waiting To Install The Knicks Offense Until Derrick Rose Returns From His Trial Seems Like A Bad Idea, No?

New York Knicks Training Camp

NY Daily News- For the last week and for an indefinite period moving forward, the Knicks are trying to teach an offense without their point guard. It’s not as though Derrick Rose is on the sideline injured and still capable of absorbing these lessons — he’s sitting 2,500 miles away preoccupied with a civil trial. The balance of preparing his team and not wanting Rose to fall too far behind has prompted coach Jeff Hornacek to “stall” the installation of his offense. “So we don’t go over it again when he’s here,” the coach said.

To compensate for his absence, Hornacek has worked on other aspects of the game – timeout plays, end-of-game plays, rotation combinations, defense. It further complicates things that Rose will command the ball when he returns, directing the offense and distributing. More than anybody, he needs a strong understanding of Hornacek’s “Triangle Aspects” system. “As the point guard, you’re going to have to be the guy who sees everything, you’re the one who is going to have to make a decision,” Hornacek said.

Unless his defense attorneys unexpectedly call him to the stand, Rose completed his testimony Tuesday and theoretically could return to the Knicks during the $21.5 million civil trial. However, Hornacek said the Knicks encouraged the 28-year-old to remain in L.A. until the verdict or final ruling.

There was the potential for a mistrial, which would result in the restart of the trial at a later date — perhaps during the regular season, which starts Oct. 25. But the judge ruled against the defense’s mistrial motion Wednesday, and Rose subsequently missed his fourth straight practice in New York. The pace of the trial suggests Rose will be absent for Saturday’s game against Boston, meaning he wouldn’t debut at the Garden as a Knick until Oct. 29, at the earliest.

So let me get this right. The offensive system that has been a punchline for years is getting a new coach. Said coach is making a hybrid system of his system along with the triangle. Phil Jackson himself said that today’s players have trouble running the triangle. And we are going to hold off installing the offense until our point guard’s return as he battles a rape case where one of the detectives was just found dead? Good, great, WONDERFUL! I think we can all see the Rose case spilling into the regular season. Does Jeff Hornacek plan on having the Knicks run like a pickup team that just met each other for the first time that morning? At least Melo seems happy about the way everything is going.

The Knicks have a viable backup option to start in Brandon Jennings and there is at least a small chance that Derrick Rose could end up in jail if the criminal case becomes something. But instead the Knicks will work extra hard on timeouts and rotations. And that my friend is how you make a bad situation worse. Typical fucking Knicks.

Luckily Melo went ahead and proved that he is indeed a Top 15 player in the NBA.

That video is music to Me7o’s ears!

And just because.
