App State and Tennessee Was The Overtime Thriller Everyone (no one) Expected
College football announced that it was truly back tonight because fuck that Hawaii and Cal bullshit game from last Friday.
App State bullied Tennessee for much of the game and was up 13-3 at halftime. App State’s coach was amped about it.
App State ran inside misdirection all game against the Tennessee front 7. State didn’t score much but they were in solid control of the game throughout. Oddly, Tennessee rarely took advantage of the gap in talent at skill positions. Tennessee’s first positive sign of the game came off of this Cameron Sutton interception.
The Vols took one shot downfield on a nine route and, magically, scored a touchdown on that play to tie the game up at 13.
App State coaches got tight in the final seconds of the 4th quarter when they were solidly in field goal range so the game went to overtime after App State’s QB dove out of bounds to end regulation.
The Vols got the ball first in overtime and luckily got the fumble recovery in the end zone after Dobbs coughed it up on the goal line.
The Vols stuffed App State on four straight plays to hold on. College football is fucking nuts and I’m glad it’s back.
