Dwayne Johnson Was The Highest Paid Actor On The Planet In 2016 (#2 Was, Of Course, Jackie Chan)
Forbes- Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson elbowed out reigning top-ranked Robert Downey Jr. to become the world’s highest-paid actor–and scored his biggest ever annual paycheck in the process. Johnson’s $64.5 million payday more than doubled his 2015 earnings, making him this year’s biggest dollar gainer. The erstwhile wrestler’s millions and millions came from upfront fees for movies including Central Intelligence and Fast 8, as well as the forthcoming Baywatch in which he’s set to play Mitch Buchannon. A staple of the Fast and Furious franchise, the stellar box office performance of his recent films (including 2015’s hit San Andreas) have seen his quotes skyrocket. He bested second-ranked Jackie Chan ($61 million), who mints money with movies in China, and Matt Damon, who tallied $55 million largely off the success of The Martian to boost his earnings 120% year over year.
Ok so Dwayne Johnson being the highest paid actor in 2016 isn’t surprising. 64 million dollars is a fuck ton of money but it isn’t surprising because he is, in one word, a goddamn delight. Literally everybody on the face of the Earth loves him. Even the people on that New Earth love Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and they don’t even know him. Doesn’t matter. You will never hear any person say they hate Dwayne Johnson. If they do, they’re a communist and should be shot on sight. Dwayne Johnson will be the President of the United States some day. I’d bet my life on it. The shocking part of that list is that Jackie fucking Chan came in 2nd place. He made 61 million dollars in 2016. Yes, that Jackie Chan. Yes, the guy who does all his own stunts. Yes, Lee. Yes, the guy who didn’t know you should never touch a black man’s radio.
Also how about this
I VASTLY underestimated Jackie Chan’s popularity in China. It stands to reason I suppose. There’s 12 trillion people in China so it makes sense that the most popular actor from China would be worth a billion dollars. But still. The fact that he’s still pulling in that kind of money in 2016 is nothing short of baffling. Up until I read that Forbes article I hadn’t thought about Jackie Chan in a solid 8 years. Yet there he is. Right near the top of the list of some of the heaviest hitter in Hollywood. Just silently raking in eight figures. Do you, Jackie. Do you.
PS- We getting a Rush Hour 4 or nah? I’m not against it.
