Lightning Strike Melts The Cup And Ruins The Green At An Iowa Golf Course

PGA- “The good Lord would never disrupt the best game of my life.” Those are among the fateful final words from the Bishop in “Caddyshack” moments before being struck by lightning in a biblical storm as he was in the midst of the round of his life. The lesson? Golfers: Do not mess with lightning. Last week in Des Moines, Iowa, a line of thunderstorms pushed through Des Moines Golf and Country Club and did it ever leave a mark on the course’s practice green. Check out the damage a lightning strike left behind in this tweet by Des Moines Golf and Country Club Director of Grounds Rick Tegtmeier:

I’ve lived in Iowa a long time but the storms lately have been OUTRAGEOUS so I’m not surprised by this one bit. I’m actually a little surprised this doesn’t happen more often in this part of the country where it storms seemingly every other day. There was a storm so vicious on Saturday night that I thought the tree outside my apartment window was gonna fall over and it would’ve been curtains for yours truly. Anyway, that sucks for that golf course I guess. Or does it? Not gonna lie, now I wanna play the golf course that has the hole that got struck by lightning. They should embrace this. Make it an attraction. Have people come play the hole that God laid his very own hands on. Maybe even charge extra.

PS- Speaking of storms we’ve had around here lately, there was one yesterday and the severe local weather alerts interrupted the British Open broadcast. I was fucking furious. Which made me think they should give you the option of whether or not you want those warnings. Do it like this. If a person presses “decline” on the storm warnings then that person forfeits their right to sue the news station for not warning them of the tornado that killed them. That’s fair, right? Cause I would’ve pressed “decline” in a heart beat if I could’ve. Instead I was staring at some stupid local weather guy while Henrik Stenson played one of the greatest rounds of golf ever. Dumb.
