Real Headline From Rio: "Mutilated Body Washes Up On Olympic Volleyball Beach Venue"

The GuardianParts of a mutilated body have washed up on the sands of Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro just meters from where beach volleyball athletes will compete in the upcoming Olympics.

The discovery is the latest to unnerve the city as it grapples with rising crime, a recession and exhausted state finances at a time when it hoped to be celebrating the first Olympics ever held in South America.

It was unclear Wednesday afternoon what conditions may have led to the mutilated body but a policeman standing guard by a security perimeter confirmed its existence to Reuters.

What a magnificent, spectacular disaster this Olympics at Rio idea is. A complete trainwreck. I mean it quite honestly could not be any worse, short of a nuclear bomb being detonated and the IOC forcing athletes to drive through the mushroom cloud to get to their events.

Just to recap – it’s the epicenter of the ZIKA virus. That was bad enough to cause tons of athletes to fear for their safety and drop out right away. Then we found out there were gang members posting up on the overpass of the only highway in and out of the city just opening fire with automatic weapons. There are no police or firefighters because nobody bothered to pay them. That’s not speculation, the cops and firefighters literally handmade a sign and said we will not help you.

In case you do get hurt, they don’t have hospitals.

Oh and the stadiums aren’t even close to ready. The subway line isn’t ready. The governor declared a financial emergency in the state. So if the disease ridden mosquitoes and live bullets don’t kill you…you’ll have nowhere to compete, and no way to get there if you did.

But maybe I’m just being a debbie downer, I can be kind of a pessimist sometimes. I’m sure everything will go great. Zika and murderous gangs and lack of public health officials and law enforcement and nonexistent venues is nothing they can’t find a solution for in the next few weeks. I mean keeping mutilated body parts from washing up on the beach is an easy one, just put in a net or something.
