People Are Actually Surprised That The Homeless May Be Misusing The Free Wi-Fi Kiosks In Manhattan

CBS- Superfast, free wi-fi is rolling out across New York City. Payphones are being replaced with high-tech kiosks that offer internet access and smartphone charging, but some fear they’re becoming hotspots for the homeless. Adam Hamilton was charging his phone at a LinkNYC kiosk on Eighth Avenue. “I think it’s great because, you know, it’s paid through advertisements. People need free wi-fi,” he told CBS2’s Tony Aiello. It’s part of an effort to help the one in four New Yorkers who don’t have high-speed internet access at home.

But people making themselves comfortable at the kiosks – many of them homeless – is already an issue for some New Yorkers who have taken to documenting the problem on social media. “I’ve been noticing homeless people hang out dancing in groups — dancing in front of it. It’s weird, and I don’t think it’s used for the right way,” Melanie Landano said. Near the Port Authority Bus Terminal, one man sat at a kiosk for 30 minutes as commuters squeezed past. “He’s obviously trying to get something done, so it’s no a problem for me,” Chris Palatucci said. But Rob Bijoyan said one homeless man recently spent six hours plugged into a kiosk. “It is very unpleasant, it actually seems like it pulls these people to the units themselves,” he said.

S…M…motherfucking H. I told anyone that would listen months ago that these Wi-Fi hotspots were going to be a breeding ground for homeless hangouts. Easiest take of all-time. You bring anything new that draws a crowd in New York City and the homeless will be over that shit like stink on a homeless person white on rice. My biggest mistake was I thought that the homeless people would be masturbating in the streets by now. But I didn’t take into account that homeless people probably don’t know the quality of free streaming porn on the internet these days. The last time many homeless people were on the internet, video porn was liekly only for those with Limewire and Kazaa on their computers. But once one of them finds their way to Pornhub and word spreads, you better stay away from any of those hot spots.

Howeverrrrrrrr, even though these WiFi kiosks are a terrible idea, I will say that the thought of homeless people doing some sort of group dance in unison is absolutely hilarious and would be a blog that basically writes itself. So while I am steadfastly against these free Wi-Fi spots, I am all for #content #content #content.

Update: Looks like they already have the whole masturbating thing down pat. Should’ve known better. That’s on me.
