North Dakota UFA Drake Caggiula Does The Unthinkable, Actually Chooses To Go To Edmonton
I honestly never thought I’d live to see the day. Sure, Edmonton has a little bit going for them right now. They have generational talent Connor McDavid. They have Taylor Hall. They have Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. They have the 4th overall pick in the draft this summer with plenty of rumors being tossed around that they’ll be trading that pick for a #1 defenseman. The decade-long rebuilding process is almost over but I still never thought I’d see the day when anybody actually willingly goes out of their way to call Edmonton “home”. Figured the only way you end up there is via the draft or a trade. But earlier tonight, coveted North Dakota UFA Drake Caggiula made that very decision. And as a Flyers fan, it has scratching my head and punching myself in the dick.
Caggiula, who had 51 points for the Fighting Sioux this year during their National Championship run, will almost certainly find a spot in Edmonton’s top 6. Edmonton will probably look to ship off some wingers this offseason and I’d be shocked if Eberle AND Yakupov are both there to start next season. He was also looking to go to either Vancouver to play with his Sioux linemate Brock Boeser, Philly to play for his former coach Dave Hakstol, Chicago to win a Stanley Cup, Ottawa for no apparent reason at all, Buffalo to hang out with the Ryan brothers and Richie Incognito, and a few other random spots in between. And out of all the options in the world, Drake Caggiula decided to go to Edmonton. Again, it’s a pretty baffling decision. But to each his own I guess. Here’s to what could have been but what will never be. Goodnight, Sweet Prince. I’ll miss you forever.
