Andrew Shaw Suspended One Game And Fined $5000 For Homophobic Slur

I’m shocked the NHL came down this hard on Andrew Shaw. I’m not saying that he didn’t deserve to be suspended(I’m actually fine with it), but usually the NHL and the NHLPA go by the book and look at past precedent for a suspensions. I can’t recall a player being suspended recently for something said on the ice.I wouldn’t be surprised Shaw and the NHLPA will appeal this suspension and the league will hope that the Blues win Game 5 so they don’t have to actually deal with this until next season. We’ll see though. I don’t think Shaw is a bad guy, and I do believe that he’s sorry after hearing his statement. But it’s a mistake you can’t make. Terrible end to the season, and possibly Shaw’s career with the Blackhawks.
