Amy Schumer Left A $1,000 Tip For Bartenders On A $77 Bill

(CNN)- Amy Schumer remembers when she struggled before she became a star, and that proved to be lucky for a group of bartenders. The comedian reportedly left a $1,000 tip on a $77 bill Saturday for the bartenders at the hit Broadway show “Hamilton.” “I was very touched, it was just something so generous and so kind that you don’t see every day,” Madeleine DeJohn, a bartender at the Richard Rodgers Theater in New York, told the New York Daily News. Schumer was in the house taking in a performance with a group that included boyfriend Ben Hanisch.

Amy Schumer following the “Just don’t be a dick” rule when it comes to tipping waiters and bartenders.  A rule that loser last week didn’t follow when his waitress had purple hair so he gave her nothing. Amy knows what it’s like to work in a restaurant. Pay that shit forward. Obviously it’s a little easier for Amy Schumer to do something like this because she’s a mega star. 1,000 dollars is a drop in the bucket for her but look at all the good it did. Basically made those bartenders lives. Picture with the bill. Social media posts about. Really awesome stuff. I will say this, I wonder how cautious celebrities are about leaving a tip like that. Because it does kind of set a precedent for every time Amy Schumer goes into a restaurant or bar now. Yes, we’re all heaping praise on Schumer for this, but every waiter or waitress from now on is gonna kinda sorta expect a GIANT tip from her. In the old days (pre-social media) it wasn’t a big deal for a famous person to leave a big tip because nobody found out about it. Nowadays everybody finds out when a celebrity leaves a big tip thanks to Twitter and Instagram. Still an awesome gesture by Schumer. Good on ya.
