Aqib Talib Says His Vicious Facemask Penalty On Corey Brown Was Completely Intentional

(Source) Talib said he was just having a “regular conversation” with Brown. Of the penalties, Talib said “one I just did on purpose, and I just had to show him. It’s probably going to be a fine, but, hey, we’re world champs.”

“We was just talkin,’ and it was getting a little chippy,” Talib said. “So the ref picked me to slow the game down, you know. We didn’t do nothing. We were just talking noise to each other, me and 10 (Brown), a regular conversation.”

Asked by USA TODAY Sports if his teammates tried to calm him down after his next personal foul – the face mask – Talib said no and said the penalty was inconsequential.

“My teammates knew what it was,” Talib said. “He (Brown) was on the 3-yard line. (After the) personal foul, he was on the 1-and-a-half-yard line. So it is what it is.”

He wasn’t fazed then. And he wasn’t fazed after the game, either, when he ran up to the NFL Network stage but slipped and fell back off the stage. Former NFL player Deion Sanders had to help him get up. But when finally found his footing on the stage, Talib pointed to the sky in victory.

“That was the funnest game I’ve played by far,” he said.

This will probably be an unpopular stance and I know that the PC response here should be that Aqib Talib is dangerous and awful and should be banned from football. I know that. In 2016 if you don’t speak out against every hard hit you’re basically told you’re a neanderthal and a mouthbreather. But guess what, I’m totally ok with this play with Talib. Now obviously it’s dangerous as hell and makes Aqib a dirty player but did you watch the Super Bowl? Did you see how deflated the Panthers looked? Did you see how physically dominant the Denver Defense seemed all night long? These type of plays matter. It’s like when the Pistons used to beat the shit out of Michael Jordan every time he went into the paint, or when a pitcher throws 95 high and tight and possibly hits a guy. Sometimes you take the penalty to send a message. Sometimes you have to bully your opponent a little bit to take the air out of their lungs. I’m happy no one got hurt and again Talib is most definitely dirty for this, you can’t argue that he isn’t, but sometimes you need a slightly dirty play in a big game situation. It’s organized chaos. If I’m a Denver fan I take this penalty every single day and twice on Sunday. This is like when Danny Kanell got all that heat for saying he would hit Tom Brady a little after the whistle to send a message. That’s part of the game and anyone who disagrees is basically expecting football players to be someone they are not. If the NFL wants to do away with things like this then they can make ejection level penalties like in college, but under the current rules Talib was basically able to send a message for a single yard, what’s the down side?
