RIP BMX Legend Dave Mirra

TMZ - BMX bike legend Dave Mirra — who once had the record for the most X Games medals — has died of an apparent suicide … TMZ Sports has learned. Cops say the 41-year-old’s body was found in his truck with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Mirra hosted 2 seaosns of “Real World/Road Rules Challenge” on MTV — and was the namesake of several BMX video games. Mirra also drove for Subaru rally car racing team.

Freaking unreal. Everyone grew up watching Dave Mirra. Everyone wanted a bike with pegs on them so they could pretend to be Dave Mirra. Everyone played his video game many times over. I remember sitting at home watching the X Games in the golden years wondering how in the world he did what he did. Then I would go outside and do a bunny hop and absolutely nothing else on my bike and be like yep, that guy is incredible.

It was Dave Mirra when it came to BMX, Tony Hawk for skateboarding, and Travis Pastrana for Moto X. I don’t watch much X Games anymore, but it’s always super sobering when a hero from your past goes out this kind of way. I absolutely loved watching Dave Mirra crush it at the X Games year after year. RIP.
