Chuck Pagano Is Probably Going To Get Fired But He's Got It All In Perspective

(Indy)He sounded like a coach resigned to his grim fate, yet a man steeled in perspective. Chuck Pagano is under fire. On Monday, a day after his team lost a second consecutive game by 35 points, he finally acknowledged it. Pagano opened up in a way he hasn’t all year, invoking previous coaching lessons from as far back as 1998, his courageous battle with cancer in 2012 and the possibility — one that’s looking and more and more like a probability these days — that he isn’t the Indianapolis Colts coach in 2016. “They can’t eat you,” he said. “They can fire you, but they can’t eat you. So if the worst thing is a year from now, let’s say I’m in Boise playing with my granddaughters, I’m going to be fine. That ain’t going to happen, but I’m going to be fine if I go down that road.”

Tough to argue with that logic. Yeah, sometimes things don’t go your way. Every so often you’re gonna find yourself on the losing end of a battle within the worst division in football, starting a 40 year old. But, you know what? Not like you’re being eaten. Very few people think about it from an angle like that. Most men would panic and think about how the loss of a paycheck will have a very serious effect on their way of life, they’ll wonder what they’re going to do, how their families will deal with the change, and what comes next. Luckily, Chuck Pagano is not such a man. Yeah, they can fire him. They can take his job and run him out of town, but it’s not like the can cannibalize him as if he were a Walking Dead character. Life’s all about perspective and Chuck Pagano has that in spades, he’ll be just fine. Although if we’re being honest I’d probably rather have Jim Irsay gnaw my arm off in some drugged out, manic state rather than go back to Boise.
