The Best Fielder In The Game, Manny Machado, Wins His Second Gold Glove
Make some room on the mantel Manny, you got some more gold coming. Machado beat out Evan Longoria (9 errors in 377 chances), and Adrian Beltre (17 errors in 389 chances) to win his second of many Gold Glove awards. Despite having what was his worst defensive season, he still is that much better in the field than everyone else. After early season struggles, he settled down, corrected what he needed to, and started making highlight play after highlight play. Manny’s insane range allows him to make plays in the hole behind Hardy at short, bare handers in front of the bag, and we’ve all seen the arm he has throwing from foul territory.
According to the Baltimore Sun’s Eduardo Encina, Machado’s SABR Defensive Index was the second highest amongst all fielders at 12.4, only behind Tampa Bay’s Kevin Kiermaier’s score of 26.7. Manny hasn’t let the talk of switching to shortstop, or two knee surgeries affect his play. He goes out there every day and makes tough plays look like routine plays in his sleep. Not many guys in the game can play like Manny, the kid is special, an absolute monster with the leather. Congrats on the hardware Manny!
