WOW: Sherrone Moore Has Been Fired FOR CAUSE at Michigan
Just when you thought the coaching carousel was coming to a gentle stop, we get an absolute bombshell on a Wednesday afternoon as Michigan has fired head coach Sherrone Moore for cause. There have been some message board rumors circulating about Moore and some details which could lead to a decision like this, but I don't think anyone actually saw this coming.
Now we get to fire the hot board back up and potentially start a whole new round of the carousel, because I think this is a job that will absolutely attract sitting Power Four head coaches. The name everyone seems to be immediately going to is Kalen DeBoer, who has certainly gotten calls in the last few weeks from other programs, but has stayed put at Alabama — though who knows what could have happened if Auburn doesn't fumble at the end of the Iron Bowl.
My personal dream mega-chaos scenario is DeBoer goes to Michigan and Lane Kiffin bolts for Tuscaloosa two weeks after taking the LSU job. Let's get nuts.
If DeBoer really does want to stay at Bama, though, would Michigan be interested in Lincoln Riley? Maybe giving Brian Kelly another shot up north? Could this be the job that pries Eli Drinkwitz away from Missouri? It's hard to even put together a hot board because this is one of only a few jobs in the country that could get literally anybody. I guess we'll just have to find out.
What a day.
