We've Got A Polar Bear Sighting In Baltimore! Pete Alonso Agrees To A Five-Year Deal With The Orioles!
Oh my goodness, it finally happened! The checkbook for the the Baltimore Orioles has been open and they just wrote a fat one to Pete Alonso, the best free agent bat on the market is coming to Baltimore, I sure hope polar bears like crab cakes because he's going to beat eating a ton of them! The Orioles were in on Schwarber, they offered the deal he took but couldn't land him, they wouldn't be outdone for Alonso who will slot right into the cleanup spot and play first. I can't express how massive this is for the Orioles lineup, their culture and their future. Alonso is a legit game changer and now he's an Orioles. I can't believe it.
Orioles fans have been frustrated by the words coming out of POBO Mike Elias' mouth, it was a lot of talk and not much walking the walk. He walked the fucking walk here. He grabbed Alonso away from the Mets and wouldn't be outbid here, David Rubenstein talked about how there are no financial constraints and this proves it. A massive deal for a massive bat that could change the outlook on the AL East. And they aren't done, they're still working on adding pitching, whether it be Framber Valdez or Ranger Suarez or Michael King, the O's see their window and are going for it still.
I was tweeting last night that the Orioles would HAVE to overpay, they have to pay extra to get guys to come to Baltimore, that's exactly what they did. It is funny that Alonso had a longer deal out there but lower AAV, he wanted the money and the O's give it to him. Love the $1 million more than Schwarber got from the Phillies too. No deferred money, no opt outs, straight up five year deal for one of the best bats in baseball, that is glorious. I still can't believe that they did it, we've been waiting and waiting for liftoff and it's here. Now go get some more pitching, go add Ranger, go add Michael King, go make this rotation better and I'll see you in Sarasota. The Orioles HR leader last year had 17, they've added 2 guys who do that in 2 months with Alonso and Taylor Ward. Guys have to stay healthy but this lineup has a legit chance to be VERY dangerous. O's aren't messing around anymore you guys, they're going for it. This team just got so much better for 2026 and beyond, keep adding pieces Mike! Get me some pitchers!
